Privacy
“Munich” is a non-commercial project — a 3D reconstruction of the city. This page explains what data is processed when you open the site. Back to the model
Questions about data: kontakt@muenchen1613.de.
Hosting
The site is delivered by Cloudflare, Inc. On every request Cloudflare technically processes your IP address and browser details to deliver the page and protect the site from attacks. We do not receive or store this data. Legal basis: legitimate interest in operating the site reliably (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Cloudflare privacy policy.
Usage statistics — only with your consent
On your first visit the site asks whether it may count anonymously which modes and features are used. This helps us understand what works in the project and decide what to build next. Until you answer “Yes”, nothing is sent.
If you agree, events are sent: page opened and scene loaded (with load time), mode change (overview, walk, tour), era change, opening a building card and actions in it, choosing a view, changing season, time of day, sound, voice and language, use of sources and comparison, “share”, walk duration, tour progress (stops, end, continuation, exit), frame rate, loading errors and active time on the page. With them: era and mode at that moment, interface language and your browser’s main language (just the language code, e.g. it), phone or computer, screen width class (narrow, medium, wide), voice mode, whether you came via a “share” link and from which website (domain only, e.g. google.com). To link the events of one visit, a random string is used that exists only while the page is open; it is new after a reload.
To see whether visitors return, after consent your browser keeps a visit counter (monachium.visits); only “first visit / 2–3 / 4 or more” is sent, without an identifier. No IP addresses, cookies or persistent identifiers are used, and times are rounded to the minute. This data cannot tell who you are. It is stored in a Cloudflare D1 database (region “Western Europe”) for 12 months and then deleted automatically.
Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR, § 25(1) TDDDG). You can withdraw it at any time: untick “Statistics” in the settings (☰) — nothing is sent after that. Declining has no effect on the site.
Feedback
Via “Feedback” in the settings (☰) you can report a problem or suggest an idea. We store the type and text of the message, the language and — if you give it — your e-mail for a reply. If “attach technical data” is ticked, the page address with the current view, era and mode, browser (User-Agent), window size, graphics card and frame rate are added; the form shows exactly what will be sent before you send it. Your IP address is not stored. Messages are kept in the same Cloudflare D1 database and deleted after 12 months, or earlier on request to kontakt@muenchen1613.de. Legal basis: your request and our legitimate interest in answering it and fixing errors (Art. 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).
Ratings
At the end of the tour you can rate it (“How was the tour?”, 1 to 5) and, if you like, write what we should improve; under the texts about buildings and eras you can mark “Interesting?” (👍/👎). We store the rating, what it refers to (tour, building or era), the language, phone or computer and — if you wrote one — your comment. Your IP address is not stored. We can link a rating to the anonymous visit statistics only if you agreed to statistics. So that your ratings can be shown and changed, your browser keeps them in monachium.votes. Ratings are kept for 12 months. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in improving the texts and the tour (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR); you give the rating yourself and can withdraw it by tapping again.
What is stored in your browser
In localStorage: language (monachium.lang), voice mode (monachium.voice), your answer about statistics (monachium.stats2) and, if you agreed, the visit counter (monachium.visits). In sessionStorage: which eras have already been shown in this session (monachium.epochsSeen). Language, voice, answer and eras are needed for the site to work and are sent nowhere; all of it is cleared with the site data in your browser. The site sets no cookies.
What the site does not have
No advertising, no external fonts, no third-party counters or trackers. The narration is pre-recorded: listening to it sends nothing to third parties.
Your rights
You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, and withdrawal of consent (Art. 15–21 GDPR). The statistics are anonymous, so as a rule we cannot link them to a particular person. You may lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, for example the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA).
